ENGINE TECHNOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert energy into useful mechanical motion. Heat engines, including internal combustion engines and external combustion engines (such as steam engines) burn a fuel to create heat, which then creates motion.Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion, pneumatic motors use compressed air and others—such as clockwork motors in wind-up toys—use elastic energy. In biological systems, molecular motors, like myosins in muscles, use chemical energy to create motion

SPECIFICATION

For the specs of engine, the latest engine is the new 3.6-liter, direct-injected V6 motor, similar to the one in the CTS, which puts out 308 horsepower, and 265 lb-ft of torque at a low down 2400 rpm. It’s a huge improvement over the previous year’s offerings of the 3.0-liter V6 or even the 2.8-liter Turbo V6. And gas mileage on our AWD test car is still a respectable 16 mph city and 23 mpg highway, which is 1 mpg fewer than the standard front wheel drive models. During a 500-mile highway trip, our SRX registered 25.5 mpg when cruising at 70 miles per hour and 23 mpg when at 75 miles per hour. Regular gas is recommended, instead of Premium that was required on last year’s turbo.

V6 ENGINE
A V6 engine is a V engine with six cylinders mounted on the crankcase in two banks of three cylinders, usually set at either a right angle or an acute angle to each other, with all six pistons driving a common crankshaft. It is the second most common engine configuration in modern cars after the inline four

LATEST ENGINE

For the 2013 Cadillac SRX, a new 3.6-liter V6 replaces both of the previous engine choices. The six-speed automatic transmission also gains a fuel-saving Eco mode. In terms of features, Bluetooth is now standard, while a heated steering wheel is standard on all trims except the base SRX. Cadillac says it also retuned the suspension and added more sound insulation for a more comfortable and quiet ride.

In the SRX, its output shrinks by four horsepower and eight pound-feet, due to some tweaks to the induction system. Replacing those two engines is a single 3.6-liter V-6. “This is the engine the SRX should have had all along,” said an engineer who didn’t wish to be named. The engine is similar to the 3.6-liter V-6 found in the CTS, but it’s adapted and tweaked for the SRX’s transverse arrangement. A few of the changes—like the clever exhaust manifolds integrated into the heads, the plastic intake manifold, and lighter connecting rods—help shave 20 pounds off the 3.6-liter V-6. Lightening the connecting rods allows the engine to rev a bit higher, and the higher revs lead to 308 hp at 6800 rpm. Other changes, like additional sound deadening in the firewall and a clever rubber-isolated high-pressure fuel line, keep engine noises out of the cabin. Putting rubber between the fuel line and engine nearly eliminates the injector ticking sound we’ve come to expect from direct-injection engines at idle.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Cadillac introduces technology and design enhancements to the SRX luxury crossover SUV this week at the New York International Auto Show. Among the new features for 2013 is CUE, the in-vehicle user experience that incorporates touch-screen controls similar to the most popular mobile devices.

The SRX provides a comfortable ride, especially in Performance trim with the adjustable suspension, which can be set up to be soft and supple for daily use or taut and communicative for when driving is on the spirited side. For those who don't plan on driving this crossover in a spirited manner, the other versions of the SRX provide a plush ride over all surfaces.

CADILLAC CUE

Cadillac CUE (Cadillac User Experience) is standard on the 2013 SRX. It is the brand’s new design and technical breakthrough for intuitive in-vehicle control and connectivity.
CUE pairs entertainment and information data from up to 10 Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices, USBs, SD cards and MP3 players with a vehicle infotainment system that reduces complexity through customized information, voice commands and fewer buttons and larger icons. The comprehensive, in-vehicle experience is designed to be unique for each consumer, from the “simple user” to the fully connected “super user.”
The heart of CUE is the vibrant, eight-inch LCD multi-touch sensitive screen – with proximity sensing and hap tic feedback – that is seamlessly integrated in the top of the central instrument panel. It displays CUE’s home page, which resembles a smart phone’s screen, with large, easy-to-target icons that execute commands. Capacitive technology on the screen and faceplate enables consumers to use the same “swipe,” “pinch” or “spread” gestures common to most popular smart phones and tablets.

A motorized faceplate for the system reveals a concealed storage area for smart phones or other mobile devices and includes an illuminated USB port.

INTERIOR ENHANCEMENTS
CUE is the foundation for the 2013 SRX’s enhanced driving experience and is complemented with additional features and design refinements:
  • Standard HD radio
  • Bluetooth audio streaming is available for all collections
  • A USB port in the storage bin behind the CUE faceplate
  • The center console now features two additional USB ports, an SD card slot auxiliary input jack and 12-volt power outlet
  • New headphone and remote design for the rear-seat entertainment system, which also includes a rear USB port and SD card slot
  • New shift knob design
  • New steering wheel design
  • New instrument cluster with new driver information center for CUE integration.

BOSE ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION

Active noise cancelation is new for 2013 and helps create a quieter driving experience. The system used three microphones to detect ambient noise, the frequencies of which are processed by a computer that directs counteracting sound waves through the audio system to tailor the sound quality and character inside the cabin.

         REAR SEAT ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

The available rear –seat DVD entertainment system, with dual rear seat- mounted flip-up 8 inch  screens, two wireless headphones and remote control, provides a diversion for rear passengers. The dual- play capability allows a movie to play on one screen, while a different movie or video is played on the other. The system is also Blue-ray compatible.

           ULTRA VIEW POWER SUNROOF

The available UltraView sunroof spans both front and rear seats and gives the SRX an even more spacious feel. The power sunshade blocks the light and keeps things cool.

INNOVATIVE STORAGE

An available Cargo Management System includes a U-rail system, which uses a floor mounted metal track and an adjustable cargo fence to help keep items in place. There’s also a concealed under floor storage bin and an air-conditioned glove compartment. Additional storage can be found in the front and rear doors, and in the backs of the front seats.

HEATED AND VENTILATED FRONT SEATS

The available heated and ventilated front seats provide just the right level of comfort, regardless of weather conditions. The airflow from the ventilated seats helps keep you feeling fresh and relaxed mile after mile.

BRAKE TECHNOLOGY

1. INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION OF THE SYSTEM
· A braking device consisting of a combination of interacting parts that work to slow a motor vehicle

· A brake is a mechanical device which inhibits motion.

· Most commonly brakes use friction to convert kinetic energy into heat, though other methods of energy conversion may be employed.

-The vehicle brake system consists of two hydraulic circuits. If one circuit is not working; the remaining circuit can still work to stop the vehicle. For normal braking performance, both circuits need to be working. If the warning light comes on, there is a brake problem. Have the brake system inspected right away.

2.AUTO DRY BRAKE SYSTEM

Safety is something every manufacturer takes seriously, and automakers constantly develop new technology to help make driving safer for everyone.

StabiliTrak has been around since the late 1990s and has gone through various upgrades and changes over the years, but this is the first time the company has specifically targeted wet brakes.

Auto Dry Brakes work with the SRX Rain Sense automatic windshield wiper system, or when the standard windshield wipers are operating, and the SRX has been traveling over 20 mph continuously for more than four miles without using the cruise control. A slight amount of hydraulic pressure is generated by the StabiliTrak hardware, which pulses pressure to the vehicle’s brake calipers at intervals to wipe water from the brake rotors while the car is moving.

With drier rotors, when the driver does apply the brakes, the brake system operates more effectively, giving a more-assured stopping feel and better brake effectiveness in wet conditions.

Auto Dry Brakes are designed to apply pressure to all four of the SRX’s disc brakes at roughly six kilometer intervals, while the accelerator is applied. The system works seamlessly with StabiliTrak, anti-lock brakes and traction control without the driver knowing anything is happening.

BASIC OPERATION SYSTEM

When active, Auto- dry brakes, also known as Rain Brake Support, help improve overall braking performance in rainy conditions by applying the brakes to reduce the amount of water on the braking surfaces. When these driving conditions are encountered, the SRX brake system automatically applies the appropriate amount of pressure an all four wheels for 1.5 seconds to create this effect. For Auto-dry brakes to function, the following conditions must be met continuously for a distance traveled of at least 3.7 miles:

1) The vehicle must be travelling faster than 19 mph
2) The accelerator pedal position must be greater than 10 percent
3) The cruise control must be turned OFF
4) Windshield wipers must be in any ON position or Rain sense wipers activated (if equipped)

BENEFIT OF TECHNOLOGY

Electronic stability control systems like StabiliTrak are already proving to help prevent crashes. The 2012 Cadillac SRX wrings a new benefit from the system –removing water from brake components during wet highway driving conditions. Drivers can feel more in control in soggy conditions because Auto Dry Brakes can help to improve overall brake effectiveness during rainy conditions on the highway.

what is cadillac???

holla reader!!... we meet again.. thanks for viewing...

when u shoot to this page? what is your first impression about Cadillac? for someone who knew it before should't have any problems. yet, for those who didn't know anything about Cadillac, this post could help you.

first of all, Cadillac is one type of vehicle and for your information this is a American luxury vehicle. Cadillac is currently the second oldest American automobile manufacturer behind fellow GM marque Buick and is among the oldest automobile brands in the world. wow! that sounds great right?

lets know some of the history of the Cadillac :
Depending on how one chooses to measure, Cadillac is arguably older than Buick. Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, a master mechanic and entrepreneur, who named the company after his ancestor, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, the founder of the city of Detroit. The company's crest is based on a coat of arms that Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac had created at the time of his marriage in Quebec in 1687. General Motors purchased the company in 1909 and within six years, Cadillac had laid the foundation for the modern mass production of automobiles by demonstrating the complete interchangeability of its precision parts while simultaneously establishing itself as America's premier luxury car. Cadillac introduced technological advances, including full electrical systems, the clashless manual transmission and the steel roof. The brand developed three engines, one of which (the V8 engine) set the standard for the American automotive industry. Cadillac is the first American car to win the prestigious Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England, having successfully demonstrated the interchangeability of its component parts during a reliability test in 1908; this spawned the firm's slogan "Standard of the World." It won that trophy a second time, in 1912, for incorporating electric starting and lighting in a production automobile.

It's quite boring when comes to history right? but without all the intruders, the modern cars will not be great and sophisticated like presents.

lets view some of the models :

these are the historical models :

while some of these models still can be found on the road :

last but not least the new models of Cadillac :

I guess that's all for this post. Till we meet again readers! smile always :)
